Week of 10/7: Essay Writing + Hamlet

Monday, 10/7:
  1. We reviewed the essay assignment and the difference between the Q2 and Q3 rubrics. We then discussed some writing reminders.
  2. We checked out Hamlet books.
  3. Students had time to start work on the unit check on the College Board site. You must have this completed by Tuesday, October 15 at 11:59 pm. The site will allow you to close out and return to your work later.

Wednesday, 10/9:
  1. We reviewed how to write body paragraphs.
  2. We discussed tips for how to read Shakespeare.
  3. We played Hamlet musical chairs and practiced interpreting the quotes in order to make inferences about the characters, events, and conflicts of Act 1.
  4. Homework: read Hamlet Act 1, Scenes 1-2, and complete a QRQ (Quote, Response, Question).

Friday, 10/11:
  1. We reviewed writing conclusions and MLA formatting. Remember that your essay is due Saturday, 10/12, to turnitin.com by 11:59 pm.
  2. One actor's thoughts on Hamlet (skip the video to 3:45).
  3. We reviewed the Fever Chart assignment that will cover the entire play. If you were absent, it's important you review the requirements of this assignment!
  4. We wrapped up our discussion of tips for reading Shakespeare and reread the beginning of the play together.
  5. We then transitioned into discussion questions.
  6. We made sure we understand the Fortinbras conflict.
  7. Homework: read Hamlet Act 1, Scene 3, and complete a QRQ (Quote, Response, Question). And don't forget your essay is due Saturday, 10/12, by 11:59 pm to turnitin.com.
