Friday, 9/27: Thesis Statements

We spent a lot of time working on thesis statements today.

Here is the PowerPoint for reference.

Write your new and improved thesis statement.

Then complete the reflection. Here are the questions from the board...
Please write a reflection of this writing process. Some questions to consider while writing include:

  • How did this process work for you? Where were you confused? Where were you successful?
  • How much did your thesis statement change from the original draft to the final draft? What did you learn about what you need to add/delete?
  • Based on your thesis statement, how much do you imagine the rest of your outline would change? Why? (Please note: you are not actually writing a response to this prompt. We are just practicing thesis statements.)
This work is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday.

Monday, 9/23: "Yellow Wallpaper" Character and Setting

Today we completed quick writes and then specifically discussed character and setting in "The Yellow Wallpaper." If you were absent, you need to complete the quick writes in the link. In order to make up for the discussion you missed, your quick writes must be quite thorough. Make sure you include a few quotes in your writing. Point to specific parts of the text in your analysis.

At the end of class, we turned in the quick writes, the jigsaw work from last week, and annotated stories.

Homework:

  1. Read and annotate "Girl" by Jamaica Kincaid.
  2. Sign up for AP Lit through the College Board. Use the join code provided in class. I can't put this information online, so if you were absent or you lost it, access the group chat you've set up for yourselves.
  3. Optional reading: "Boy"
